An independent team is a competitive team that registers directly with GBYSL instead of through a member club. Here is what it takes to start one and play in the GBYSL Select league.
Before forming an independent team, we encourage coaches and managers to explore their options with a local member club. Clubs provide support, tools, and guidance that an independent team has to handle on its own.
An independent team's coach and manager take on the work a club office would normally do. GBYSL handles the US Club registration and GotSport setup.
Independent teams are sanctioned by US Club Soccer, which is required to play in the GBYSL Select league. US Club registration runs on the soccer year, July 1 to June 30, and once registered, player and coach passes can also be used for tournaments.
